The Joliet Fire Department currently has 212 sworn and 5 civilian personnel staffing 9 stations and an Administration Office.

The stereotypical image of a firefighter polishing a chrome bell and petting his station's spotted Dalmatian mascot dog has given way to other activities in addition to emergency response - classroom study, building inspections, hydrant testing and training - never ending training. In 2007, the Joliet Fire Department will document over 30,000 hours of training. Not only do today's Joliet firefighters continue to sharpen their firefighting skills, but a number of specialty areas of emergency response have been added to the
responsibilities of the department
