Training

In 2007, the team logged 48 hours of training from January through December covering: ice diving, swift water rescue, current diving in the DesPlaines River , surface rescue (for events such as the boat races of the car show), search patterns, and underwater communications.

Members of the Dive Team also trained the Fire Dept. in 1 st responder water rescue. In cooperation with the Training Division, each company had hands on training with the tools and equipment necessary for a water rescue.

Captain Aldridge and Lieutenant V. Stachelski attended an 8 hour interspiro Mask Technician class. They will now be able to do any repairs and yearly maintenance on all of our AGA. Masks.

The International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists held their conference in Colorado Springs , Colorado . In attendance were Dive Team Leaders Fox and J. Stachelski. Divers from all over the world shared their experiences and education to keep us going forward in the future.

In the fall, Captain Fox and Captaint J. Stachelski put on a Public Safety Diver Class. Three members of the Joliet Dive Team and four members from Lockport ’s Dive team were certified as Public Safety Divers. The rigorous class was 60 hours of class room, pool sessions, open water dives and a final scenario that included live surface victims and underwater victims. The new Divers rescued all victims in 36 minutes, breaking the old record of 48 minutes, previously held by the last class.
