The Joliet Fire Department Honor Guard serves as a functional branch of the department. It presents to the public a high-level of respect and honor for the freedom we guard and represent. The image they present is reflected back from our audiences and is one of pride, respect, and service to our community. Established in 1998, the Joliet Fire Department Honor Guard proudly serves as ambassadors of the department in a positive display of our professionalism and patriotism. They provide the department with ceremonial colors for many events including parades, flag ceremonies, Veterans group functions, Flag Day Ceremonies, and funerals. It is with the desire and commitment of the Honor Guard to achieve a high-level of excellence for each assignment they are detailed to perform. The image they present reflects upon the department and the level of quality in which they strive to achieve.
The Honor Guard attended the funerals of our own JFD Apparatus Operator Jim Guest and the Firefighter from Chicago Illinois. The Guards that attended the Chicago funeral included the fire Chief, Engine 3 and a
City fire car.
The Joliet Fire Department Honor Guard receives no compensation for the funerals it arranges or attends.
The Honor Guard received one new member Aaron Hill, and another member Mike Bank became a Bag
Piper for the guard.
