Citizen Fire Academy
Dear Citizen of Joliet:
Have you ever wondered what the Joliet Fire Department is all about? Have you ever asked yourself why do firefighters do the things they do, take the risks they take? Did you ever question how you would react in an emergency situation? Are you sure your smoke detectors are in the right location? Can you choose and use the right fire extinguisher? If a family member had a heart attack in your home, could you help him?
Every year thousands of school children visit the Joliet Fire Department and ask many of these questions. Often times the adults who accompany them state that they wish they knew more about firefighting and safety. The members of the Joliet Fire Department feel it’s time to better inform the citizens of Joliet about the workings of the department.
The Joliet Fire Department would like you to accept a very special invitation to attend the Joliet Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy. We are seeking citizens who will go back to their schools, organizations and neighborhoods and relay the information they acquire back to their groups. Our goal is to teach you CPR, First Aide, Fire Safety, Choosing and Placing Fire Protection Equipment and most of all the Tactics & Strategies of Firefighting. We will discuss the various special operations teams the Fire Department conducts, and the whys and how’s of our Fire Prevention Bureau.
If you feel you can share 3 hours a week from 6:30 – 9:30pm get ready for an exciting adventure into the
world of Fire Safety and Firefighting.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact
the Joliet Fire
Department at 724-3500.
Sincerely
Captain George Bode
Coordinator
