Fire Prevention Week 2009
October 5th-9th
Each year the Nation Fire Protection Agency names a theme for Fire Prevention Week. In Joliet, that theme comes to life in 1 st through 5 th grade classrooms throughout the city, as nearly 5,000 kids participate in the annual “Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest.” The posters are judged, and the winners receive prizes at the annual “Exchange Club Firefighter of the Year Banquet” held to recognize the outstanding efforts of a Joliet Firefighter.
During Fire Prevention Week, our Engine Companies visit all of the area schools, and conduct fire drills with the teachers, staff and students. There are also programs at both the Downtown and Westside branches of the Joliet Library to promote fire safety. The children receive a visit from “Freddy the Fire Truck, and a “show and tell” with a real fire truck outside in the parking lot.
